An Operating Room Technician will take the responsibility of various pre-surgery, post-surgery, and intra -surgery duties within the hospital. Working under the supervision of a registered surgeon or RN, these technicians will carry out various tasks that are listed on the Operating Room Technician Resume and such include – assisting the surgeon by handling all types of instruments and supplies during surgery, sterilizing the needed equipment before surgery, putting gloves and gowns to the surgeons and surgical assistants, checking patients charts, assisting anaesthesiologists, sponging or suctioning the site during operation and applying dressing to patient.
Technicians working in the operating room should be emotionally stable and be able to respond quickly to the surgeon’s need, they should be conscientious and have manual dexterity. Knowledge of health insurance and familiarity with standard procedures and practices in OR is an added benefit. A college degree from an accredited surgical technology program is needed.
